Newborn

It’s magical!

The Fresh48 Session

A natural-light session within the first 48 hours after your delivery, usually done in your hospital room or bedroom if you’ve had a homebirth.

The Styled Newborn Session

The Styled Newborn Session is typically done in my studio with controlled lighting before the baby is 5-10 days old. After that, they become more alert, and newborn styling becomes virtually impossible.

This session focuses on the baby and the usage of props. It can include photos of other family members, but including additional subjects needs to be arranged beforehand.

Managing Expectations

Newborn photography is not an exact science, and sessions can take anywhere from 2-3 hours, depending on your baby’s schedule. It’s not unusual for a newborn session to be a combination of feeding, calming, cleaning (yes, naked babies poop!) with photographing in between. It is, therefore, important to discuss your expectations and requirements beforehand with me.

Things to consider:

  • style & approach
  • quantity vs. quality
  • session focus (e.g., do you want photographs of siblings as well)
  • your photographer’s expectations/requirements from you

Preparing Your Baby & Family

As a mother of three, I understand that a little preparation can go a long way.  Here are a few pointers:

  • The studio is home to a wide variety of outfits, wraps, blankets, and props, but feel free to bring your own. Please note that the baby’s safety is my first priority; therefore, all items are sanitized before every shoot.
  • Try to arrange your session so that it overlaps with naptime.
  • Feed your baby just before the session starts.
  • Try and keep your baby awake for at least 1-2 hours before the session.
  • Bring an extra outfit for the baby, along with plenty of diapers.
  • Bring a pacifier if your baby uses one.
  • The studio will be warm, so dress in layers.
  • Feel free to bring snacks or other refreshments, as necessary.
  • If you want to include other family members in the session, please communicate that to me. It must be discussed beforehand.
  • If you plan to be in the pictures, remember to follow the basic, dressing style guide and tips with a focus on color contrast, bright & neutrals, patterns, props, layers, and textures.
  • Prior to your session, contract forms must be signed and the retainer needs to be paid two weeks in advance*.
